Propaganda Poster









My propaganda poster is an image of a woman looking in the mirror while editing a picture of herself on her phone. I used my self-portrait to turn my idea into a manipulating message that many women see today since the birth of social media. 

 

            Today, women are pressured to be perfect and look a certain way to please other people. These beauty standards have driven women to edit themselves using different apps to make themselves look “better”. The message in the poster, “Edit your photos. You’ll look better”, is something that women all over the world hear from men or even, other women. It is sad to see how many people do not recognize that this is a big issue, not only for women, but for everyone. I don’t think there is anything wrong with editing a photo, but if you want to change something about yourself, do it because you want to and not to fit into society’s “norms”.

 

            This type of propaganda is mainly called fake news because this message does not hold any truth in my eyes. It is a manipulating message that tries to convince other women that they have a lot of “imperfections” they must fix. I say that this poster is fake news because everyone is beautiful in their own way and people should love to learn themselves as they are. I like to think of this poster as a type of reverse psychology to convince women that they are beautiful just as and that editing photos will not change how you view yourself, only make it worse. The phone in the project represents social media and society, painting a picture of “perfection”. Meanwhile, the mirror is a symbol of authenticity and self-love. 

 

            To conclude, I was inspired by all the discussions I’ve had about social media these last few weeks in different classes and decided to integrate it into my artwork. The colors don’t carry a specific meaning, only try to give a mirror-like effect, and help highlight the drawing as is. Therefore, I believe that the message and drawing help demonstrate to other women that editing a picture doesn’t make you prettier, proving how this is only fake news and propaganda.

Artist Statement    The logo that I’m reusing for my Tagbrush project in Photoshop is the sunflower logo. Illustrator Tools for Beginners

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_-ygXZUq3U I believe that the tool that will be the easiest to use is the type tool because it is similar to ones I have used in other applications like Canvas or Word. I think that the hardest tool to use will be the Layer tool because even though I understand how to use it, I still need to practice to feel more comfortable with it. I might use the text tool for writing texts on different artworks or creating articles. Meanwhile, I use the layers tool to create a various number of artwork in the same page. What I find interesting about this video is how he explained the gridlines and helped me understand how to move the shapes and shadows. BW to Color

  In this assignment, I used the Adobe app called Photoshop to edit the colors in one of my pictures. The photograph I used for the assignment is the one I used for a previous assignment where I am sitting in the docs in front of the riverwalk while admiring the buildings.           The history behind this picture is that  I have visited the docks at night regularly to find some hours of peace and even, friendly conversations. This is a place where I connect with nature and other people at the same time.   My overall vision of this assignment was to give color to the city of Tampa.
